Redistributing eyeglasses to those in need around the world.

Over 1,000 eyeglasses distributed to date.

Our mission is to distribute recycled eyeglasses to people who lack access to proper corrective lens.

In light of the global pandemic, EyeHope has temporarily shifted its mission to provide proper PPE tools to people around the world.

2.2 billion people currently have a vision impairment, of whom at least 1 billion have yet to be addressed, according to a 2019 report published by the World Health Organization.

1 billion people lack proper access to corrective lens solutions. And while this problem can be found in all communities, the burden of eye conditions reside in communities carrying financial hardship. We aim to tackle common conditions such as myopia and hyperopia.

We believe eye care is an underserved area of healthcare, and can have a profound impact on an individual’s learning potential. When a child has trouble reading a classroom board or textbook, learning ability becomes compromised. Many are left untreated, and therefore is a major barrier to economic and human progress. We strive to break down unnecessary barriers and to help people maximize their potential.

We believe in recycling.

Our process is simple: collect used eyeglasses, refurbish, scan, and redistribute to those in need.

Many people upgrade or move onto new eyeglasses every few years. We find value in that. As organizations overseas send us eye exam data for people in their communities, we collect donations, sanitize the products, scan into our database, and match the pair to its new owner. Recycle and redistribute is our way to go.

Colombia 2019: 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses distributed

In September 2019, EyeHope completed its first project, distributing 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses to the community of Bogota, Colombia.

Over the first nine months of 2019, EyeHope worked with several organizations with services in Bogota to identify areas of need and obtain eye exam results. Based on the information, we leveraged our database to find each individual a matching pair. Majority were a success, while we obtained custom pairs for the few with special situations.

In September, when we finally arrived in Bogota (after spending some time with Colombia customs), we were able to successfully deliver the eyeglasses to multiple communities. Being able to visit and spend time with the kind people of Bogota was an incredible experience. The gratitude expressed by the people was unforgettable. Being able to serve other people has inspired us to continue the project for years to come.

The success of the pilot project has led to our next project: Ecuador!

Poor Vision Plagues the World; Why Is It Important?

  • More than 150 million Americans use corrective eyewear to compensate for refractive errors.

  • In India, nearly 200,000 traffic deaths each year are tied to poor vision.

  • In Italy, 60% of road accidents can be linked to vision impairment.
